Welcome Back

Saturday, March 15, 2014 12:00AM Behind The Wheel With Brett Smrz

Hey everyone! I’m really excited to revamp my website, and get you all back in the world of Smrz! I have some exciting stuff coming up, so I will be updating my website as much as possible. I will also be adding at least one blog post per week to keep everyone up to date. To start off, I’ll be working in downtown LA tomorrow morning on an Infinity commercial. I’m not sure what it is for, what I’ll be doing, or what I’ll be driving yet, but I will let you guys know when I know and when I’m allowed to release the information. On every job I fill out a Non-Disclosure Agreement, and I have to be very selective with what I am allowed to release before the production actually releases the final product. ...

Willow Springs Track Day

Thursday, June 21, 2012 10:21AM Behind The Wheel With Brett Smrz

The E46 M3 is coming along nicely! I have Rhys Millen Racing doing all of the work for me. So far we have only done a few things to the car, but there is a lot more to be done with it. I only have the car back for about a week until they start working on it again, so I figured I'd have some fun with it, and I went out to WSIR for a track day. That was my first time ever driving the track at speed, and it is a really fun track. I got my lap time down to a 1:38.2, but will definitely be dropping more time with some better tires on the car, and getting the car properly aligned! I have a video down below of some of my laps from yesterday (Shot via GoPro).

Here are the mods thus far:

Hey everyone,

I am still currently working on my racing plans for 2012. I have a test with a race team sometime this month, and will update on the site when/how it goes.

I just got back from working on One Shot in Pittsburgh, PA. I got to hang out in the Burgh for 7 weeks, which was really awesome. The food there was pretty good, and I got to go to a lot of different restaurants. I also went to a Pittsburgh Steelers football game and sat in the 18th row, center field! That was my first football game, and it was awesome! I got myself a jersey and got to witness all of the crazy tailgaters in the city! If you were walking around the city without a jersey on, you felt left out.

I also got to go see a Pittsburgh Penguins hockey...

New Hobby

Saturday, July 09, 2011 5:59AM Behind The Wheel With Brett Smrz

I picked up a new hobby! Rock climbing is such a fun sport. It reminds me of my old childhood days of climbing up the Lopez's huge tree with my best friend Joel. I went out to Stony point two days ago with Casey Pieretti, and helped out for a shot with his climbing foot that he has made. I didn't get to try it out unfortunately, but it was still awesome to watch him climb with it. I went out to Rockreation last night with Courtney Schwartz, a fellow stunt girl, and played around for a few hours. I ended up getting a membership there, and I will definitely be going back out. If anyone in the LA area wants to climb, head on out to Rockreation and maybe I'll see you there!

Thanks go out to Five Ten climbing shoes for providing me with the...

Race Recap

Sunday, June 05, 2011 6:10AM Behind The Wheel With Brett Smrz

Well...this weekend didn't go too well for me. We started out in Saturday practice feeling the kart out, getting used to driving the kart again, and dialing in the setup. We were having some big motor problems all day, and was losing about 1 second on the back straight away. We found a new motor to run for Sunday, given to us by Phil and Everett Giebler; I can't thank them enough. The motor seemed to be working really well in the morning. I was running some decent times, and was ready for qualifying.

I went out for qualifying, made about half a lap, and the motor shut off. We brought it in and noticed that the spark plug wire was loose. The track officials graciously allowed me to do a Green/Checkered. You honestly need 2 laps, at...

Willow Springs IKF Race

Saturday, May 28, 2011 8:06AM In The News

I am going to be racing out at Willow Springs kart track next weekend under the Team Maddox tent with my friends Luis Martinez and Nick Johnston. I haven't driven a go-kart since the Supernationals in 2007! It should be a great weekend, and a lot of fun. I went out to a race out at Adams kart track and watched Nick race in the Maddox kart. It looked like a solid chassis, and I'm really excited to get back out there and represent it for them.

I encourage people to come out and watch next weekend! It's Willow Springs, so don't forget to dress for warm weather, but also bring a heavy jacket, as the weather there is VERY unpredictable. It will most likely get pretty windy.

Hope to see some of you...

Update!

Wednesday, April 13, 2011 11:16AM Behind The Wheel With Brett Smrz

Hey Everyone!

Wow, it has been a while since I have blogged on my website! I wouldn't be surprised if nobody looks at this blog, but I figure it is only fair that I update everyone on my status for this season.

First off, things have been going great for me. I haven't been racing, but my stunt career is really starting to kick off. I've been doing some car commercials, TV shows, and some movies as well! Check out the resume section of my website to see the latest things that I have worked on. The last few things for me have been; The Mentalist, The Amazing Spiderman, X:Men First Class, and a FIAT commercial, which I am still currently working on. (Hint: They might be coming to America soon!)

As for the racing side of it. I think...

Eight Candidates Named for 21st Annual Team USA Scholarship

Sunday, August 22, 2010 11:18AM In The News

Elkhart Lake, Wis. (August 21, 2010) – The Team USA Scholarship enters its third decade of providing opportunities for talented young American race car drivers with today’s nominations for the “Class of 2010” who will vie for a pair of scholarships to contest the traditional end-of-season Formula Ford events in England in October and November.

In 2008, Team USA driver Josef Newgarden became the first American ever to win the prestigious Formula Ford Festival (Kent division) at Brands Hatch, while Conor Daly became the youngest winner of the Walter Hayes Trophy at Silverstone. Last year Brett Smrz finished a sensational third at Brands Hatch, despite starting 27th, and Connor De Phillippi mirrored Daly’s...

Honda Accord Commercial

Thursday, July 15, 2010 4:46AM Behind The Wheel With Brett Smrz

Hey Everyone!

I haven't written a blog in some time. I haven't been doing too much racing this year. I've only competed in two races all season, which is a bummer. I am planning on running in the Formula Ford Festival in England at Brands Hatch on October 16-17 in the Kent (Ford 1600) class again with Cliff Dempsey Racing. I had a blast last year, and it was a really great experience, so I am going back for some more!

My stunt career, on the other hand, is starting to get going at a bit more steady of a pace. I just worked on a Honda Accord commercial on Monday - Wednesday. It consisted of precision driving with the Camera Car Industries camera car. A camera car is the sickest SUV you will ever see in your life! Check out their...

Jim Russell Championship: Race of Champions Announced

Friday, May 21, 2010 12:00PM In The News

The organizers of the Jim Russell Championship Series are revising the format of this year’s competition. The Jim Russell “Race of Champions” replaces the proposed 2010 Jim Russell Championship Series.

A six-race invitational competition during June-August will now be run, with the outright points winner claiming a seat in Round Nine of the Firestone Indy Lights at the Infineon Raceway.

“The Jim Russell organization was adamant that we would continue with a meaningful program and one that followed our original goals albeit in a different guise,” commented Chip Pankow, President of the Jim Russell Racing Drivers School.

The Jim Russell “Race of Champions” is certain to feature fierce...
